Everyone raves about this place for beach camping.  We finally went with our good friends the Machin’s and we have to agree.  You park nose to rump all the way down the coast for maybe a couple of miles, so you have traffic on the driver’s side (not much though) and nothing but ocean on the passenger side.  You open the door and walk right out to either rocks or sand depending on where you are on the coast and what time of year it is.  It was rocky in March where we were but the Machin’s said as it gets into Summer the sand comes way up.  This was a great trip and our new go-to for beach camping.  It’s close too.  We took a day trip up the coast to Solvang to add to the fun.  Hoping for a repeat of this trip soon.  Scroll to the bottom for a recommendation of a fun game…Deer in the Headlights.  A camp favorite!

 

Painting and leaving rocks around town in hopes of brightening someone’s day is a big thing here in the Antelope Valley.  Well, RV’ers do it too.  I try to leave a rock everywhere I go.  Here are a couple of mine and Nikki’s and yep, that’s Marlowe learning to do it too!

There’s a message on the back of each rock that says you can keep it or re-hide it but to be sure to post a picture on the RV’ers Rock page on FB.  Unfortunately almost nobody ever posts a picture.  It would be fun if they did so we can see where our rocks travel.  But knowing or hoping the rock brightened someone’s day is good enough ❤

Something we have been wanting to do for a while…stay at an Elks club.  So for Garrison’s birthday we went down and stayed at the Downey Elks.  We immediately locked the keys in the RV but Gary found a pallet he leaned up against the RV and used as steps to crawl in the window.  LOL good times!

He did it after working over 47 years of his life and 40 of it as a contractor!  No more driving an hour and a half to work.  He will tell you he really enjoyed his career, but it was time to move on.  Here he is burning his work shirt at his retirement party.  We also celebrated Nikki earning her Master’s Degree in teaching.  Two huge milestones crushed!

Our favorite place to go.  Only 2 hours from home, easy and beautiful drive up the 395 to the Eastern Sierras.  My happy place for sure.  Just a nice get-away with my honey.

We went back to Lake Havasu in October when it wasn’t so hot.  The weather was beautiful, a great time to go.  Took more friends with this time so we had 3 boats along for the ride.  We stayed at The Islander and rented a dock, made everything so much easier.  Only problem with October is Monsoon storms and we hit a doozy!  We went from The Islander to Pirate’s Cove which is a LONG way and had lunch.  On the way back the storm hit.  The waves were huge.  I was pretty scared but Gary handled the boat like a pro and got us back.  It took forever though…After that ordeal I’ll never be nervous on the boat again!  We went out to dinner that night and it just poured.  It was so cool.

First time to Pismo Beach and really liked it. Of course it’s a crowded parking lot, but the beach and boardwalk are really close and there is great shopping and dining. Definitely somewhere we will go again.

The first thing we ever towed with the RV was our boat heading to Lake Havasu Arizona to see what all the hype was about! We went with John and Craig so we had plenty of help if we needed it. I launched the boat with the RV and was a little nervous but all went well. The Islander is a very nice park. It has docks for the boats at an extra charge but none were available so we beached them. It was 115 degrees there when we arrived. The RV only cooled off after the sun went down…even with an extra portable AC unit we brought. I’m thinking Fall is a better time to go.

Sandy, Dee, Beth, and Ilia joined us and we met up with some more friends while there. Beth and Ilia are retired Navy and helped me tremendously with my nervousness at going fast. Lake Havasu is wide open and long like a river so there’s a lot of competition going on…Men! Lots of fun though!

This was our view all the way there and back…nice to be able to check and make sure the boat was still there LOL. The AC in the cab quit working on the way home with 3 hours to go. That was miserable but luckily it was an easy and cheap fix…just a vacuum hose that came loose. Javi’s RV repair fixed it and showed us how to fix it in the future. They charged $30 and gave us something to keep vermin out of the engine. Great RV repair place!
